The Church Board in the Church of the Nazarene is a representative group of people who are elected by the members and who are committed to work with the pastor to develop and carry out the vision for the ministry of New Life Church in Dallas, Oregon. They meet the criteria set out in the Manual of the Church of the Nazarene in terms of character, spiritual maturity, and commitment to Christ. One group within the Board is called the Stewards, the members of the Board who focus on the ministry of the church to the people and the community. Another group is the Trustees, the members of the Board who focus on the care of the buildings and grounds, and to make buildings inviting and functional so the church can carry out its mission and goals. The pastor coordinates the work and facilitates mininistry of the Board and the local church, communicates with the District and International Headquarters of the Church, and brings his or her insight into the needs of the congregation to the table as together they make decisions and do the work of running the local church. The Church of the Nazarene has a congregational-presbyterian form of government, which means the congregation and the pastor together have authority and responsibility for the operation, vision, and ministry of the local church. The Church Board is a dedicated, hard-working group of people who are committed to doing the work God has called the church to do, and to minister to the people in who not only come to the church but also simply live in the surrounding community. |
